Evelyn WardYayın:
•A charter is a frozen moment in time. The ink traces embellished on paper or parchment carry not only words, but also physical evidence of the tension between two desks, the authority of an authority transmitted through the trembling of a hand. The digitization efforts of the Vatican Library archives are a kind of reversal that forces these silent objects to speak again: trying to read the weight of a pen stroke on parchment, centuries ago, through the light contrast revealed by pixels today. This is the discipline of the paleographer and the diplomat, who attempt to read a document not as an object, but as an event.
